American Distance Medley Relay Smashes School Record

Meet Stats

Freshman Sean Duffy was a part of the American distance medley relay team that estabished a new school record at Virginia Tech

BLACKSBURG, Va.- American University's distance medley relay broke the school record today at the Virginia Tech Last Chance Meet. The Eagles ran almost 15 seconds faster than the old record, running 9:46.95.

The team of Sean O'Brien, Andy Ellerhorst, Jovens Colas and Sean Duffy had established the previous record back in December. They just missed topping Duke in the race, finishing only .75 seconds behind the Blue Devils. The team also was just short of the NCAA provisional qualifying mark of 9:45.

O'Brien, Colas and Duffy were named on Friday by the Patriot League to the All-League team based on their performance in the Patriot League Championships last weekend at Army. All three were a part of the 4x800-meter relay team that won the Patriot League Championship along with Carlos Hunt.

O'Brien will be competing next weekend in the NCAA Championships in the mile. He is currently ranked 13th in the nation in the event. The next time the Eagles compete as a team will be March 16th at the 49er Classic in Charlotte.
