Junior track athlete Zaia Wharton (Elkins, W. Va./Elkins) has been named the Patriot League Female Track Athlete of the Week, league officials announced Tuesday.
Wharton earned the award for her efforts in the 1500m race at the Navy Invitational on March 26. She won the race in a time of 4:40.79, setting a personal best. Her time was also the fourth-fastest outdoor 1500m run in school history.
The award is the first for Wharton. She also holds the school record in the outdoor 400m and 800m races and was a member of the school-record holding 4x400m, 4x800m and 4x1500m relay squads.
Wharton and the rest of the Eagles return to action on April 2 at the Maryland Invitational.
