WASHINGTON — American University head men's basketball coach Mike Brennan has added junior college transfer Cheikh 'CB' Diallo to 2017-18 roster. Diallo will have two years remaining of eligibility.
Diallo — a native of Senegal — comes to AU from Kilgore (Texas) College, a Division I member in the National Junior College Athletic Association. In 59 career games with the Rangers, Diallo averaged 24.0 minutes, 9.6 points and 2.2 rebounds per game along with 124 assists. A strong shooter, Diallo connected on 38.6 percent of 3-point opportunities and 81.4 percent of free throws.
Diallo had his best season as a sophomore when he finished third on the team in points at 10.6 per game and shot 42.1 percent from the outside and 83.3 percent from the line.
The 6-foot-3 guard had a career-best 26 points in the 2016-17 season opener against Louisiana Christian School. Diallo hit 6 of 10 from three in 33 minutes. He netted 20 or more points three times last season and reached double figures 12 times as a sophomore.
At Kilgore, Diallo was coached by former Eagle guard Matthew Wilson '10, who just completed his first season as the top assistant for the Rangers. Wilson was a contributor on AU's back-to-back Patriot League Championship teams in the late 2000s.
Before coming to the United States, Diallo competed for SEED Academy in Thies, Senegal.
Diallo joins an already impressive recruiting class which includes freshmen Sam Iorio, Drew Lamont, Marvin Bragg, Jesse Little, Max Hoekstra and Stacy Beckton Jr. Diallo will not be the only transfer on the 2017-18 roster, as Larry Motuzis is eligible to play after sitting out last season after transferring from Saint Xavier University.
