American to Battle Lehigh for Third Place

Feb. 23, 2005

BETHLEHEM, Pa. - The American University men's basketball team will take on Lehigh University in a key Patriot League contest Wednesday evening. Game time is 7 p.m.

American lost to Lafayette in their last outing in overtime, 93-89. Andre Ingram (Richmond, Va./Highland Springs) led all scorers with 37 points against the Leopards and was named the Patriot League Player of the Week for his performace. Earlier this week, Ingram earned National Association of Basketball Coaches Second Team All-District 4 honors.

American has lost four straight Patriot League games for the first time since Jeff Jones took over as the coach of the Eagles. However, a win over the Mountain Hawks would keep AU's chances of a No. 3 seed alive. American is 13-11 overall and 6-6 in the conference while Lehigh is 13-12 and 7-5. Lehigh struggled last week as they lost at Holy Cross by 20 points, 73-53, and at home versus Navy by a single point, 76-75.

American leads the series 13-8 but Lehigh has won the last four games played between the two schools. A victory by either team Wednesday night would guarantee a winning season for that particular school.
