American Faces Navy in Patriot League Quarterfinals

WASHINGTON - The American University men's basketball team will take on Navy in Patriot League Quarterfinal action this Friday afternoon. Game time is 5:30 p.m.

American has won its last two games, including an 84-77 victory over Navy last Saturday at Bender Arena. The two wins gave the Eagles the third seed in the Patriot League Tournament.

American is 15-11 overall and finished regular season conference play at 8-6. Navy is 9-18 and 5-9 in conference action. In the last meeting between the two schools the Midshipmen took a 31-21 lead with 8:56 left in the first half. However, American closed out the half strong and a Linas Lekavicius (Silale, Lithuania/The Miller School (Va.) layup gave AU a 47-45 halftime advantage. In the second half the Eagles never trailed and for the game they were led by Jason Thomas (Herndon, Va./Notre Dame Academy) and Raimondas Petrauskas (Mazeikiai, Lithuania/Lithuanian Physical Culture Academy). Each had 17 points and Petrauskas added four rebounds.

American trails in the series to Navy 33-27 but the Eagles have won the last 10 contests.
