The American University wrestling team and two student-athletes
have been featured in the Wrestling Insider Newsmagazine Preseason
Division I Tournament Power Index and Individual Rankings. The
Eagles as a team have been ranked 20th while seniors Kyle
Borshoff and Mike
Cannon were both ranked in their respective weight
classes.
American is ranked in the poll after placing 28th at
the 2009 NCAA Championships where it sent three qualifiers, two of
which earned All-America status. The Eagles also finished sixth at
the EIWA Championships, eighth at the Midlands Championships and
third at the Keystone Classic. American closed out its dual meet
schedule with an 11-5 mark, the team's best record since the
2005-06 season.
Cannon was ranked third at 174 lbs. after placing eighth at the
NCAA Championships a year ago. A two-time All-American, Cannon
finished the season with a 33-3 record and his career record of
92-16 places him fourth all-time at American. Cannon also won both
the EIWA Championship and the Midlands Championship during the
2008-09 season. This season he will move up to 184 lbs.
Ranked fifth at 149 lbs., Borshoff finished seventh and earned
All-America status in 2009 in his second appearance at the NCAA
Championships. He finished the year with a 33-7 record and placed
third at EIWA Championship. His career record of 73-31 places him
11th in program history.
