Wrestling Releases 2009-10 Schedule

The American University wrestling team has released its 2009-10 schedule, which features five home meets and a trip to the Midlands Championship.

The Eagles will open their season at the ACC Challenge on November 15 before attending the Keystone Classic where senior Mike Cannon and junior Matt Mariacher each won their respective weight classes last year. The Eagles will wrap up their November schedule with a trip to the Northeast Duals on November 28.

American will return to the Midlands Championship on December 29 and 30. Last year, Cannon captured the 174 lbs. title, becoming the second student-athlete in program history to win the prestigious tournament. He was joined on the podium by Kyle Borshoff who placed fourth at 149 lbs.

The Eagles will begin their home schedule on January 8 when they take on Navy in Bender Arena at 7 p.m. They will then travel to the Indiana Duals before returning home for three straight meets. American will face Duke, Ohio and Drexel, respectively, from January 23 to January 26. The team's final meet will take place on February 13 when they host Rutgers.

This year's EIWA Championships will be held March 6-7 in Bethlehem, Pa. Cannon captured his first EIWA Championship at last year's event and American returns a total of four placewinners from a year ago. Joining Cannon on the podium were Borshoff who finished third, Jasen Borshoff who took sixth at 133 lbs. and Mariacher who placed sixth at 141 lbs. 

The NCAA Championships will take place March 18-20 in Omaha, Neb. Last year the Eagles sent three qualifiers, two of which earned All-America status, and placed 29^th as a team. Returning All-American's Cannon and K. Borshoff will look to make a run at a national championship this year while J. Borshoff will look to make his second appearance at nationals.
