Katie Ridd, a two-time NCAA National Champion and All-American
at Wake Forest, is in her first season as an assistant coach at
American.
Ridd graduated from Wake Forest in 2004 after serving as a
three-year starter for the ACC power. She was named First Team
All-America in her senior season (2003). She also received First
Team All-ACC recognition in both her junior and senior years. Wake
Forest reached the NCAA Final Four in each of her four playing
seasons in Winston-Salem (2000-03) as Ridd helped the Deamon
Deacons to NCAA National Championships in 2002 and 2003.
"Katie's experiences as a leader, winner and certainly as a
two-time national champion will undoubtedly help take our program
to another level," commented Jennings. "Katie's passion is
contagious and her ability to relate to people will help her make
the adjustment to our team a quick one. Everyone in the program is
excited to welcome Katie as we are busy at work preparing for what
we hope will be a standout year in 2009."
Since graduation, Ridd has worked in sales and marketing at Unum in
Charlotte, N.C. She also spent a year in New Zealand, where she
played on a club field hockey team. Recently, she has also been a
field hockey coach at Charlotte Country Day.
