After falling behind early, the American University women's volleyball team was two points away from pushing George Washington University to a fifth game, but could not, losing 3-1 Saturday night. The Eagles' 10 match winning streak was snapped in the loss as the team fell to 22-9 on the season.
The home team Colonials started the first game with back-to-back 10-5 and 10-3 runs.AU would not get any closer as they lost 30-14. The Colonials hit .429 while the Eagles only hit at a .061 percentage.
The two teams came out even 14-14 in the second game and went on a 10-5 run that they would hold to win, 30-25.
After the break, the Colonials started the game on a 9-3 run and seized control of the game, lengthening their lead to 30-20 for the win.
AU tied the fourth game at 29, but could not put the Colonials away as they failed to push them to a fifth game, falling 31-29.
The Eagles totaled 14 blocks on the night, but their hitting never found its touch, averaging a combined .097 for the match.
AU has until Friday to find their winning form as they host the Patriot League Tournament for an NCAA Tournament berth.
