WASHINGTON -
For averaging four digs per game and hitting .481 in volleyball's two wins last week, freshman Ivana Cebakova (Brno, Czech Republic/Ludvika Danka) was named Baden Patriot League Rookie of the Week, league officials announced Monday.
Formerly the team's libero, Cebakova played all rotations, including the front line, with great success last week. Versus Holy Cross, she had seven kills and no errors on 12 attacks for a .583 percentage. She added three service aces and a match-high 12 digs in the 3-0 win. The 5-10 native of the Czech Republic picked up where she left off the next night in the team's 3-1 win over Army, registering six kills with zero errors and a match-high 16 digs.
This marks the first time that an American volleyball player has won the rookie of the week award in 2006.
American continues its homestand this week, hosting Navy and UMES, Thursday and Friday at 7 p.m., respectively.
