Dec. 8, 2004

WASHINGTON - American University volleyball player Cutrina Biddulph (Reseda, Calif./Granada Falls) was named to the American Volleyball Coaches Association Northeast Region All-Region Team, while senior Natacha Cornaz (Lausanne, Switzerland/Gymnase Auguste Piccard) was named honorable mention All-Region, AVCA officials announced Wednesday.

Biddulph was honored after a season in which she was the top offensive option for a squad that finished 24-7 and made its fourth consecutive trip to the NCAA Tournament. The 6-4 junior led the Eagles with 4.11 kills per game, 10th best all-time at AU, and hit .348, the fifth-highest single-season hitting percentage in school history. In addition, her 1.10 blocks per game is the third-best average ever at AU.

With the honor, Biddulph now has a shot at becoming AU's second All-America. Karla Kucerkova was named honorable mention AVCA All-America after last season. This is Biddulph's second appearance on the Northeast All-Region Team, after being selected honorable mention in 2002.

Cornaz earned a spot on the honorable mention All-Region team after a successful season that was shortened by injuries. She played in 88 of the team's 106 games, smashing 2.95 kills per game, good for second on the squad. Cornaz, in her final season with the Eagles, hit .274, fifth-best on the squad.

American recently finished its season with a loss to No. 3 Penn State in the first round of the NCAA Tournament. American's 24 wins this season extend its streak of 20-win seasons to eight. Meanwhile, head coach Barry Goldberg finished the season with 398 career wins.
